Instructor- Veterinary Technician Assistant Program

The duties and responsibilities of the Veterinary Technician Assistant Program Instructor includes:

  • Instructing the Veterinary Assistant Program, Preparing lesson plans,PowerPoints, handouts, quizzes, examinations, and class activities for the benefits of the student.
  • Ordering supplies and equipment necessary for the instruction of the Program; and mark all examinations and quizzes and update from time to time.
  • The Employee will ensure that the VTA Program is kept current and that all new protocols and products are added to the course material whenever they are known.
  • The Employee will keep accurate lists of attendance and marks and submit them to the Administrator in a timely manner

  • The Employee shall assist the Administrator with School administration responsibilities, curriculum development and additional instruction as requested.
  • Ensuring that the content of the Veterinary Assistant Program is
  • current and relevant to the purpose of the training.
  • Incorporating sections to the curriculum such as exotics, wildlife, and any other sections that may be required from time to time.
  • Updating and keeping updated the Student Workbook and Instructor Manual.
  • Updating and keeping updated the quizzes, assignments and examinations to reflect the course material.
  • Creating and updating daily and weekly lesson plans including objectives, outcomes, methodology and teaching aids.
  • Creating, sourcing, and updating handouts as appropriate.
  • Creating and revising teaching aids such as PowerPoint and other visual aids.
  • Creating and keeping a current inventory of instructional equipment, body parts and supplies.
  • Ordering instructional supplies and obtaining organs for dissection.
  • Sourcing and recommending instructional equipment for purchase by the Administrator.
  • Assisting with or organizing practicum placements as required.
  • Monitoring practicum students by telephone, email, and online conferencing.
  • Archiving student records on DataWitness at the completion of each intake.
  • Assisting the Administrator with transcripts and diplomas.

Career Related Program Qualifications:

  • A certificate, diploma, or degree relevant to the subject area of the program/course AND two years of work experience in the career related to the program/course (Veterinary Technician, VeterinaryAssistant; OR
  • Five years of work experience in the career related to the
  • program/course.
  • A credential in adult education and/or teaching experience is
  • preferred.
  • Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction, including ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • High standards of behaviour, a professional attitude and commitment top quality service.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other instructors and staff.
