Routine blood work for the early detection of abnormalities is an important part of proactive health monitoring for senior dogs. This lecture reviews the most common lab work findings in senior dogs with a specific focus on the hepatobiliary, renal and endocrine systems. We discuss which abnormalities should warrant concern as potential indicators of underlying health issues.

Three Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the most common lab work abnormalities in senior dogs
  2. Provide a differential list for low T4 and understand how to diagnose hypothyroidism
  3. Determine when elevated liver enzymes in senior dogs should warrant further work-up
